Building Bridges is an art workshop that brings students from New York, Switzerland, Sweden, and Denmark together to create pieces that not only represent their cultural backgrounds, but also their artistic points of views. Over the span of one year we assembled a collection of pieces that pulled our skills together to tell stories that were as diverse as we are.
Unlike most intensive art workshops, Building Bridges was not focused on content and instead pushed students to concentrate on the process. This lack of pressure and expectation inspired us to tap into the richest corners of our imaginations and create pieces that were organic and original. It was one of the times in my experience as a filmmaker that I felt most comfortable taking risks and trusting my gut.
The Building Bridges environment cultivated this type of weightless creativity that enabled me to really listen to myself and move in the direction of what was most interesting and challenging. Apart from the traveling, the most enriching part of this workshop was getting a chance to meet and cultivate relationships with such a range of artists.
Building Bridges was such a great exercise in communication and team work. I will cary the relationships I formed with everyone with me forever. My only regret is that the workshop had to come to end. I wish everyone could have this experience.
