Alumni Blog: Kyle Mumford
One year ago, Kyle Mumford wrote a blog about beginning post-production on his short film, Jamie & Jonathan. Now, his film is in the Big Apple Film Festival, and the feature screenplay has been accepted into the Austin Film Festival.
Like all alumni might tell you, the success you hope for in your career don’t always happen right after graduation. No one hands you a three-picture studio deal with your diploma. It took me a while to realize that, and even more importantly it took me time to find my voice – but when I did, things started to come together.
In the most recent months, my short film Jamie & Jonathan has taken on a life of its own. In this dramedy, a young dad is given a second chance to be somebody, on a road trip to a funeral with his estranged young son.
So far this year it has appeared in ten film festivals around the states, and it finally has come home to the New York City to screen at Big Apple Film Festival. It screens Saturday, November 5th at 5:30 located at Village East Cinema, 181-189 2nd Ave, New York, NY 10003
On top of that, my feature screenplay of Jamie & Jonathan was accepted into the Austin Film Festival. Being at Austin was a great feeling. Not only because it is one of the best screenwriting conferences in the states, but also because it is a great place to meet talent. Where writers can bond, find new friends, and possibly meet new partners in the industry.
On top of all this, my other screenplay Gamble, was a finalist in the New York Screenplay competition. There is a lot more to do, but it is rewarding and I wanted to celebrate this news with the school that first inspired me.
