SVA BFA Film
FACULTY: Todd Stephens

Writer, Producer, Director

From Day One, my students make films. “Learn by doing” is my mantra as an instructor. I ask a lot of my students as they are required make several films throughout the year. Teaching narrative dramatic structure is my prime mission, as I value a good story above all. I challenge my students to not only make films about people we care about, but to also put their own lives up on the screen.

I draw from my personal experience to demonstrate how a director works with both cast and crew. Throughout the year, numerous industry professionals visit my classes to discuss and demonstrate the magical art of collaboration. For me, this collaboration is what making movies is all about.

As a filmmaker, my main goal is get my entire production to “dream the same dream.” As a teacher, I do everything I can to nurture the dreams of my students.
